Cushman & Wakefield Tampa believes in actively being involved in the community we call home, taking us outside of our office walls and into the community we know and love. We recognize our civic responsibility as a local business leader and our corporate giving to charitable organizations is directed toward local not-for-profit agencies that provide needed services to the community.
In 2017, the Tampa office set a lofty goal of raising $32,000 for the United Way. The United Way has been one of the Tampa office’s corporate charitable partners for the past 30 years. We support this amazing cause as it brings the community together to break the generational cycle of poverty by focusing on education; providing financial and employment education for adults to achieve long-term financial stability; and helping individuals and families in need.
Our month-long campaign consisted of community service, internal events and a capital raising campaign. During that time, we surpassed our goal by $8,000 with a grand total of $40,000 raised for the United Way! An amazing feat made even more amazing due to the fact that zero dollars donated were corporate dollars, but all employee-funded donations.
In addition to the money raised, the team participated in several activities including:
- Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cook-Off, where 10 employees squared off and competed to be the Great Bowls of Fire Chili Champion. Chili bowls were $1 / tasting for hungry employees and this event alone raised $1,000. Alex Beacham’s chili came out victorious!
- United Way’s Day of Caring where the Tampa team spent the day at Metropolitan Ministries where the team worked in the kitchen assisting with meal prep and in the store and warehouse where they sorted clothes and other donated items.
- Pockets weighing you down? Employees dropped off their extra change in the United Way Change Jar at reception.
Our record-breaking year was due in large part to the generosity of Vice Chair, Mike Davis, who graciously agreed to match donations for three whole days of the campaign and really kicked the campaign into high gear.
The campaign wrapped up with a Boos Halloween Happy Hour where the Tampa team celebrated our record-breaking year.
We are proud to work annually with the United Way and hope to continue surpassing our fundraising goals year after year. The Tampa office’s commitment to give back to our local community shows the spirit and heart of this office. Together, we make a difference.
