South Florida: The Next Tech Hub?

By Merritt Etner, Associate |  Palm Beach County

The South Florida Business Journal recently asked companies in the Broward / Miami-Dade / Palm Beach tri-county area to send in pictures of their offices for a chance to be named the coolest office in South Florida. The headquarters of Integra Connect located at Flagler Center in West Palm Beach landed the #4 spot, and it’s easy to see why. The health care technology company’s office has floor-to-ceiling windows, whiteboard walls, lounge areas, and stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway, Palm Beach Island and the Atlantic Ocean. The owners of Flagler Center, represented by Cushman & Wakefield, have been continuously updating and renovating the buildings to accommodate companies such as Integra Connect, who gravitate towards technology-savvy spaces with modern finishes.

One of the biggest trends in commercial real estate in West Palm Beach has been an influx of TAMI companies (technology, advertising, media and information business). Joe Russo, Executive Director of Palm Beach Tech, predicts that West Palm will become a true technology & innovation hub in the next 10 years. “West Palm Beach offers provides arguably the best business climate for tech companies in South Florida: a lifestyle that’s second to none, with cost of living that’s much lower than in other tech hubs.”

Millennials have been filling the residential base in downtown West Palm, providing the needed skilled workforce and energy that tech companies thrive on. The technology sector is expected to continue to grow in coming years, evidenced by a recent report by CompTIA , a nonprofit IT trade association, which found that Florida’s tech industry ranked fourth in the country with growth expanding annually since 2010. With companies like Integra Connect, MagicLeap, Citrix System, and Modernizing Medicine establishing their headquarters in the tri-county area of Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach, South Florida has established itself as the next up-and-coming tech hub in the country.
