C&W Florida Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, is a time to honor and educate ourselves about the Hispanic culture and history that has positively shaped and enriched our society over centuries.

To acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions made by people from Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean, in the past and in present day, Cushman & Wakefield teams throughout the state held “lunch and learn” events with Hispanic food and engaging guest speakers.

In Palm Beach County and Miami, the team was honored to host Hispanic Heritage Expert Martha Gutierrez-Steinkamp, a Smithsonian Fellow and author. Special guest Samantha Conde, Marketing & Special Events Manager for the Community Redevelopment Agency City of West Palm Beach, joined us for the Palm Beach County presentation, and Don Candido Creis Estrada, General Consul of Spain, joined us for the Miami-Dade County presentation. The presentations reflected Hispanic contributions to the United States and South Florida.

Fort Lauderdale hosted Tara Aloma Chadwick, Curator of Exhibitions from the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, who spoke about the history of Hispanic people in Broward County and the influence these generations have left on the area.

Orlando hosted Gaby Ortigoni, President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Metro Orlando, and Wilson Camelo, President of Camelo Communications, to discuss the contributions and achievements of Hispanic people in the Central Florida community.

The Jacksonville office held a lunch and learn event featuring Hispanic cuisine from different countries to demonstrate how Hispanic heritage influences our lives today.

Tampa hosted a special event with Lonnie Herman of Ybor City Walking Tours, who told the story of how Tampa’s historic Ybor City district came to be. The district was founded by Cuban entrepreneur Vincente Martinez Ybor in 1885 and is still heavily influenced by Cuban culture.

The Florida Cushman & Wakefield teams sincerely thank each of our special guests for taking the time to help us celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and learn more about the importance of Hispanic culture in our communities.
