Cushman & Wakefield was proud to help lend our support to the Sacramento Blue Star Moms for their recent CARE Package Packing Party on Saturday November 9 at the Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall. Filled with many essential items, CARE Packages are mailed to deployed US Service Members. Open to the public, the Blue Star Moms special CARE Package Packing Party events are typically held three-to-four times each year, with shipping in November, February/March and June.
A CARE package is a ‘piece of home’ sent with lots of love. All CARE packages contain cards or letters, a note of appreciation and support, and the box is filled with an assortment of items ranging from much needed snacks/food items, batteries, lip balm, hygiene products, various entertainment, and topped off with handfuls of sweet candy. Items, along with monetary donations, are generously donated by the local community as well as many companies and local vendors.
This year’s holiday-inspired packing party was heavily attended by several hundred supporters, with a line out the door, comprising adults, children, military families and friends, active and former service members, or folks who just wanted to come and help show their love and support of our troops and country. The large group of community volunteers, resembling that of any assembly line, helped to pack and ship hundreds of CARE packages, along with hundreds of letters at the writing station. Some were even able to make their way through the packing line a few times.
The Cushman & Wakefield Sacramento Asset Services team, led by Carolyn Spradley and Gretchen Becker, organized CW’s support of this event. Carolyn, Gretchen and Trude Hursh from Northern California Asset Services were also on hand at the packing party to assist with packing boxes as well as hand-writing letters over many hours that morning. I also had the privilege to help participate.
Trude said, “Sacramento Blue Star Moms is a wonderful organization that continues to provide much needed support and aid to our brave military currently deployed, especially now during the holidays. It is inspiring to see such a huge turnout of volunteers, of all ages, who gave their support. We had a good time and were honored to be part of the effort—it was also nice making a personal connection with our services members as our participation allowed us to do. We look forward to packing more care packages for our deployed US Service Members again in a few months.”
