RECon, International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) annual global real estate convention, was held on May 19-22nd for another outstanding year of deal making in Las Vegas, NV. The conference saw more than 30,000 global delegates and over 320 Cushman & Wakefield retail experts in attendance.
Cushman & Wakefield’s booth boasted a new, vibrant retail branding campaign showcasing “What’s Next – Redefining the Retail Experience” which featured faces of the consumer, made up of different colors, textures and strokes to show how they consist of various channels of brand and product touch-points, thus a sum of their retail experiences. And adding up all the hours of meetings booked the booth by our colleagues with their clients equaled over 700 hours of deal making which is a figure that continues to exponentially expand each year!
We were excited to host digital storefront display technology company, Outernets, who had two of their prototypes featured at our booth to conduct demonstrations of the interactive technology which also offers up data on the back end for property owners and retailers to use in their real estate and product decision making.
We were thrilled to kick off the conference Sunday evening with congratulating our own Garrick Brown, VP & Head of Retail Research for the Americas on being the recipient of ICSC’s Career-Service Research Award as part of their 2019 Global Award Reception. Garrick has done a tremendous job in his retail research endeavors and this award signifies his success. We were also very happy to congratulate Cushman & Wakefield’s Asset Services team responsible for managing CORE Shopping Centre in Canada, as the property took home two awards by ICSC in the Impact and Experiential categories for centers over 500K SF – A Gold Maxi for its “Chinese New Year at the CORE” event and a Silver Maxi for its “A Star-Studded Stampede at the CORE” promotion. Allison Onvett, Marketing Director and Caron Anderson, Marketing & Digital Coordinator, members of our Asset Services team, were recognized.
On Monday morning, Cushman & Wakefield’s Amanda Murray, Strategy & Operations Director – Flexible Workspace based in San Francisco moderated a panel entitled The Coworking Craze & Retail, which saw experts from Spacious and Industrious discuss the trend of coworking coming to the retail environment and what to expect as we move into the future. You can watch an interview I had with her and our new Coworking Lead, Melanie Gladwell later that day at the conference, HERE.
David Wirth, Director, Retail Brokerage from St. Louis moderated a panel focused on Urgent Care Clinics’ CRE Strategy and how they are changing both the retail and healthcare landscapes. The panel featured experts from GoHealth and Urgent Care Consultants. You can watch my video interview with David Wirth, which took place after the panel session and further discusses this trend, HERE.
On the second day of deal making, Cushman & Wakefield’s own Phil Colicchio, Executive Managing Director and Specialty F&B, Entertainment & Hospitality Consultant spoke on a panel discussing the Food Hall Movement in the United States—a topic he is the leading expert on and can be further explored in his Food Halls 3.0 Report: The Evolution Continues—which dropped right before the conference and was featured at the session. He had some great insights and take-aways, which you can watch in my interview with him that afternoon, HERE.
In addition to these exciting topics covered, our Live From ICSC RECon 2019! Livestreaming program discussed trends such as experiential retail concepts, new retail trends in locations such as Singapore, Seoul and Australia, retail valuation trends, autonomous vehicles and their impact on retail—and so much more!
Cushman & Wakefield held its Annual RECon Cocktail Reception at Intrigue Nightclub at the Wynn, location back by popular demand from last year’s inaugural soiree. Only this time, we shattered our attendee record with over 1,030 colleagues, clients and guests that evening!
