By Gene Spiegelman, Head of North America Retail Services
Last month, more than 400 Cushman & Wakefield Retail Services professionals from around the globe descended upon Las Vegas for RECon, the biggest show in town. The event is the International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) largest conference with 37,000 registered attendees.
2016 was my 24th ICSC RECon event, attending the last two as our firm’s Retail Lead. I have witnessed growth of our industry and Cushman & Wakefield’s position to become an industry leader and influencer.
By the numbers, this year’s conference was our most influential:
- Our new 7,700 SF highly branded booth
- More than 400 C&W attendees
- 762 client guests at our client reception (in addition to 350 C&W delegates)
- 25 media interviews at the booth, with even more conducted in advance of the show
- 5 C&W professionals featured on ICSC Live! — our thought leaders Garrick Brown, Ben Conwell, Jeff Lessard, Greg Masin and Justin Taylor
- Market-leading social media exposure
Our C&W delegates hosted more than 1,550 client meetings in our enlarged and revamped booth space, which indisputably gave us the highest visibility in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Our newly streamlined and integrated PR and marketing strategies aligned to produce national and regional media coverage at the show. We showcased a highly-followed social media presence (featuring a social media wall at the booth that displayed content in real time), and an enhanced online presence in partnership with our global partner, ICSC, that included a refreshed retail listings website. We also released a comprehensive Retail and Restaurant Expansion Guide (our first), which garnered significant interest among media and clients alike.
We received outstanding initial feedback from our brokers and clients, and our social media strategy quadrupled Cushman & Wakefield’s online mention volume up from 2015 – well above our peer competitor firms.
Without a doubt RECon 2016 Las Vegas was our best showing ever. But you can bet it had nothing to do with luck. Our successful showing at ICSC was orchestrated by our very talented and extremely hard working events team led by Alex Taylor, Rose Ellis, Kathi Pitra and Alanna Loeffler. I wish to thank them and our corporate partners who supported our efforts with their commitment.
