Following a nationwide trend, employment in New York City grew in 2018 with 85,900 jobs created, after the U.S. Department of Labor revised up the originally reported numbers by 18,800 jobs. Specifically, the health care and social services sector experienced the greatest annual performance of any sector, adding 45,300 jobs throughout NYC to bring its total to 772,600 employed. Similarly, office-using employment continued to grow in 2018, led by gains in the professional services (+14,500), financial (+3,800) and TAMI sectors (+900). Overall, unemployment in New York City remained low, at 4.1% as of January 2019.
