Cushman & Wakefield employees were excited to give back to the community at two recent New York events: Operation Backpack and its fourth annual Markman Madness Tournament.
Partnering with Volunteers of America and Operation Backpack, a record 90+ Cushman & Wakefield employees helped fill backpacks with new school supplies for children in the NYC shelter system. Providing children with backpacks that are pre-filled with necessary supplies will help ensure every child in the shelter system is prepared for the upcoming school year. This year, the firm was honored by Volunteers for America with the Spirit of the Founders Award.
Markman Madness Tournament
The real estate services firm also hosted its fourth annual Markman Madness Tournament, a 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament honoring late Cushman & Wakefield vice chairman, Glenn Markman. Mr. Markman, an avid basketball player and fan, was a respected real estate professional who spent much of his career helping to elevate the Brooklyn commercial real estate market. He had many impressive feats throughout his career, including spearheading the Brooklyn Nets’ office relocation to downtown Brooklyn.
All proceeds from the event benefited the Glenn Markman Foundation, which supports athletic, arts and educational programs for young adults. The Foundation has donated more than $150,000 over the last three years, supporting several groups, such as Brooklyn Youth Sports Club, Urban Arts Partnership, Urban Dove, Behind the Book, Good Shepherd Services, the DREAM school and the Edith and Carl Marks JCH of Bensonhurst, to name a few.
