Commercial real estate has come a long way toward bridging the gender gap in the last 20 years. By 2015, the percentage of women in CRE worldwide reached 43%, and it’s continuing to grow each year. Here in Greater Los Angeles, we’ve set the bar even higher—nearly all our local service lines exceed the national average in their number of women professionals.
But while we are proud of our progress, we know the work is far from complete. Women are still underrepresented in CRE along with many other industries, especially when it comes to senior leadership. Thankfully, women leaders and allies are finding innovative ways to make a difference and build a more inclusive world.
One of those opportunities is International Women’s Day (March 8), a global day that celebrates the economic, cultural and political achievements of women and promotes action to accelerate gender parity. To mark the occasion, we invited Director Corina Irvin (Brokerage), Director Sarah Friedman Casparian (Project & Development Services) and Vice President Melissa Gutierrez-Sullivan (Sustainability & Wellness) to host a podcast on their experiences as women in CRE. Tune in as they discuss important issues and trends like:
- Female-focused coworking
- The connection between office wellness and women’s health
- Changing the script around women and brokerage (hint: competition isn’t just for the guys!)
- Why gender balance creates more success for everyone
