As some of you may have seen in the this week’s Wall Street Journal and Reuters, Daimler will be joining with U.S. startup Matternet to develop aerial drones for its delivery vans and invest $562 million over the next five years in designing electric, networked van that can also deploy ground based drones. Ben Conwell (Lead, eCommerce and Electronic Fulfillment Specialty Practice Group) and Jeff Green (Lead, Automotive Specialty Practice Group) believe that this is the start of a trend of Auto, Technology, and eCommerce firms coming together to solve the challenges of the “last mile of delivery”.
In addition to the above news, Daimler announced on Tuesday that they are stepping up their EV game by working on between 6 and 9 new car models. A clear indication that Daimler is paying close attention to Tesla, and plans on pushing them back.
