eCommerce fulfillment centers have been around for a while now. What are the latest design, size and geographic locations trends among them, and how are various global retailers approaching this differently?
The days of the large high-tech fulfillment centers on the periphery of major metropolitan areas are not over; there will continue to be demand for that product. Characteristics of these buildings include significant employee parking, very large dock position counts, increasingly large storage and processing mezzanines, acres of additional trailer storage and truck maneuverability room, heavy power, high capacity means of ingress and egress, significant office, breakroom and restroom facilities, separation of employee vehicles and trucks and increasingly, greater clear heights.
Other smaller building types that complete the delivery chain have different characteristics.
