Why is diversity important in the workplace?
It’s a fact – diverse organisations that attract and develop individuals from the widest pool of talent consistently perform better. The difference between what makes good and great teams is when these differences are recognised and celebrated so that they are used to maximise success and collaboration. Look around your office – I mean take a really good look. I hope that you see an effective and dynamic workplace that supports and accepts people irrespective of age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability and gender. Our industry is making progress towards a more socially inclusive, diverse workforce, but we are not there yet. We can change this. The onus is on all of us to be passionate about our profession, about diversity and to have the integrity and confidence to speak up to stamp out discrimination in the workplace and consign it to the dustbin of history, where it belongs.
