Why is diversity important in the workplace?
Diversity in the workplace is key for company growth. It allows for those of different genders, age and ethnicity to be seen as equal and encourage inclusion across the business. Having taken an alternative route in to the real estate industry, I value that my peers have varying life experience which I can learn from.
I was recruited to work as an apprentice at Cushman & Wakefield in 2014 following the completion of my A-Levels. Since joining the firm, I have completed an NVQ in Property, Surveying & Maintenance and BTEC in Construction Technology & Built Environment. I am currently studying towards my BSc in Real Estate Management in parallel with the APC, which would not be possible had I taken a conventional route in to the industry.
Apprenticeships are valuable for Cushman & Wakefield’s business model as they give individuals an opportunity to attend university and gain practical work experience at the same time, not discriminating against those who prefer kinaesthetic learning methods. They encourage diversity within the workplace and fresh ideas in to the business.
