Why is diversity important in the workplace?

The benefits of diversity has been quantified and highlighted, but surprisingly, many companies are still struggling with diversity.

For me, diversity in a workplace goes far beyond gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and age, it’s a about creating an inclusive environment and culture that appreciates different experiences, knowledge and beliefs. Thus, we should never talk about diversity in isolation.

The benefits of diversity is clear, and it cannot be solved solely through recruitment and promotion practices. Companies need to ensure they build a culture of respect and appreciation- once that is done, the benefits of increased productivity, connectivity, retention rate, etc. will follow. It’s about diversity in inclusion.
