Talking with Talent: Blake Fertitta

In our blog series, “Talking with Talent,” we share a little about a Cushman & Wakefield employee. In today’s blog, we spoke with Blake Fertitta, Appraiser in the Valuation & Advisory Group.

Tell us a little about yourself (where are you from, where did you go to school, what are your hobbies and interests, etc.)

I am a life-long Georgian and spent my childhood in Fayette County, which was entirely made up of real Southerners who could trace their ancestry to someone who fought for the losing side of the Civil War and a whole bunch of airport workers. My parents fell into the latter category. Unfortunately the airlines they worked for were never Delta (anyone remember Eastern?). Still, I was able to travel a lot growing up and still love sightseeing and will spend hours upon hours at museums, much to the displeasure of any friends traveling with me. I attended Landmark Christian School in Fairburn.

I grew up playing and loving soccer but discovered I was actually a much better distance runner than soccer player. Four individual state championships and six team championships later, I made the trek up the interstate to the Georgia Institute of Technology. There I discovered despite becoming faster and lettering, that the ACC has a lot of fast folks. I graduated with honors with a degree in Business Management and joined the thriving commercial real estate industry in 2008.

Tell us about your role at Cushman & Wakefield. What’s a typical day like for you at the office?

I am with Valuation & Advisory specializing in multifamily. Our team covers the state of Georgia and then some. We usually turn around our appraisal reports within two to three weeks, so we have to stay fairly focused to meet the deadlines. In my almost five years here, we have never missed a deadline. I mostly attribute that to my senior Scott Richards, who has never been late on an assignment in his decade tenure. Despite sticking with the same asset type, the work does not became mundane as each assignment is still unique and offers a specific challenge.

Tell us about a moment in your career or an achievement that you are particularly proud of.

The Cushman & Wakefield brand has allowed us to work on assignments featuring some of Atlanta’s most publicized trophy developments including Buckhead Atlanta, The Atlantic, Atlantic House, and Ponce City Market, the last of which was the Atlanta Office’s Deal of the Year in 2013.

Is there a quote or motto you live by?

Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.

My late mentor shared that quote with me years ago when I was going through a rough patch in life. Life, predictably, got much tougher than that self-described rough patch. Nevertheless, in life you have to keep up the effort, keep competing, and never give in.

If we ever find ourselves in a ‘{Your Name} Trivia Contest’ what’s something we should definitely know?

I am a big fan of Katy Perry.
