Cushman & Wakefield, and our sister company, C&W Services, lead the way in recruiting and supporting veterans across the United States. It’s commendable and incredibly valuable work, and a true win-win for the company and our vets.
That’s only part of the story, though. Besides our initiative to recruit veterans, we’ve partnered with Operation Finally Home for the past three years. This philanthropy provides mortgage-free homes to service members and their families who have become wounded, ill, or injured as a result of their service in the defense of this country.
I’m a firm believer that people and companies have an obligation to our veterans. Our country is built on their sacrifices, and we owe a tremendous debt to these brave men and women.
We recently posted an infographic as part of our recruiting efforts that clearly showed the scope of need for veterans. One stat from the U.S. Department of Labor stated that 41% of post 9-11 vets have a service-connected disability, which is in stark contrast to 24% of pre 9-11 vets.
Essentially, we’re seeing more and more seriously injured vets coming home and trying to find their place in society. Charities like Operation Finally home and efforts like our hiring program – and many others like Hiring Our Heroes through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – are making a real difference for thousands of veterans.
In an ideal world, none of these challenges would exist. But they do, and so I feel we have a real responsibility to step up and help those who defend and honor our country. I’m so proud to be a part of a company that sees the value in helping others, especially veterans.
