#CWTakesPride2018 – Erin Leahy

Erin Leahy is a Senior Facilities Manager for Global Occupier Services. She is from Massachusetts and grew up in a home where her parents valued acceptance and community. She became involved in UNITY as soon as she heard that an employee resource group was forming. She believes a group like UNITY benefits our people, our company, and our clients.

How can the workplace best support LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies?

By providing a platform like UNITY for voices to be heard and creating an environment where everyone can bring their whole self to work each and every day.

How do you celebrate Pride?

I like to celebrate pride with all of my friends within the LGBTQ + community. It is an opportunity for me, as an Ally, to show my support and embrace diversity, especially during the New York City Pride Parade.

Why is it important to self-identify at work as LGBTQ+ or an ally?

It is important to self-identify as an Ally so we can help break down negative barriers through support and education of LGBTQ + rights in the workplace. It also makes others who are not out at work, but considering it, know that they are safe and supported.
