In June, I had the privilege of being a panelist at the women’s breakfast event as part of the 2019 Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Conference in Salt Lake City. I’m proud to say that several of my Cushman & Wakefield female colleagues joined us as we talked about building an inclusive culture, both within CRE and our respective companies.
Asset Services is one of the most gender diverse service lines at Cushman & Wakefield, and more than half of our market leaders are female. Women naturally are strong collaborators and excel at building client relationships, which are key skills in our business.
As our clients’ teams become more diverse, especially with the changing demographics of asset managers, we need to reflect our clients with the people we bring into our organization. Trends such as the experience economy are driving us to look outside of our typical talent field and recruit people from diverse industries and backgrounds, which leads to diversity in thought and perspective, and, ultimately, better solutions for our clients.
The industry and our clients are taking notice of how Diversity & Inclusion is becoming synonymous with Cushman & Wakefield. Forbes named us one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2019, and that is diversity not only across gender but race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, etc. It is an integral part of our identity, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because varying people and perspectives create more innovative solutions for clients and more uniquely position them for success. And our success largely hinges on that of our clients.
With my position and influence, I embrace the concept of servant leadership and dedicate time to help other women achieve success, just as my mentors and leaders took the time to develop my skills and prepare me for my next role or challenge. Whether it’s taking 15 minutes out of my day to offer leadership advice to one of my female team members or being a mentor in the Cushman & Wakefield Women’s Integrated Network (WIN) Mentoring Program, I, as well as my fellow female peers, have a lot to share with others to help them achieve personal and career growth.
While we have made significant progress as a company and industry, there is still work to be done. Sometimes as women, we can create our own glass ceilings. We must be positive, know our worth, own our power to lead, weigh our words and be measured. I truly believe that if you work hard, and with a sense of urgency and forward-thinking mindset, the rewards and recognition will come.
Women are making a difference, and together we can continue to drive gender parity and change the industry with our collective efforts and the positive examples of passion, hard work and determination we set for future generations behind us.

As President of Asset Services, Americas, Ms. Maloney focuses on client care, consistent improvement to the Asset Services operating platform, best-in-class service delivery, and steady growth. She is an active member of Cushman & Wakefield’s Strategic Accounts leadership team, focused on providing comprehensive, integrated solutions for key investor clients. In addition, she serves on Cushman & Wakefield’s Americas Executive Committee.
